Job Title: Shift Supervisor

Position Details: Permanent, part-time, hourly position

Rate: $16/hour

Common Ground Community Café is a not-for-profit, volunteer driven Café. We were founded in 2013 to provide an inclusive, welcoming community hub, supported by the sale of coffee and menu items. We provide a safe place for people to belong and explore. Our purpose is to serve the community, making space for people to discover the sometimes hidden, but always present common ground among us.

We are looking for a qualified and passionate individual to fill the role of Shift Supervisor. Working alongside fellow shift supervisors, and reporting to the Café Manager, the successful candidate will manage customer service and basic Café operations while supporting and managing volunteers on shift.

The successful candidate will value teamwork, community engagement, and customer service. They will also demonstrate excellent communication skills and be comfortable teaching and training volunteers with a diverse background of skill sets and capacities. The candidate will also excel at managing process and procedures related to operating the front-line of a retail environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Working alongside volunteers and teaching them how to serve coffee, prepare menu items, clean, and serve customers.
• Managing the preparation, cooking, and delivery of non-alcoholic beverages and food.
• Provide excellent customer service and engage community members utilizing the Cafe.
• Provide quality and consistent food and beverages.
• Keep café clean and maintain health and safety standards.
• Take inventory, stock, rotate, and store products correctly.
• Present oneself professionally and demonstrate clear, friendly communication skills.
• Follow cash handling procedures and cash register policies.
• Follow food and beverage health and safety standards.

• The ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong communication skills and interpersonal abilities.
• Preferred candidates will have experience in a café, retail operations.
• Preferred candidates will have knowledge of Strathcona County.
